Tricks to Beat the Afternoon Crash at Work
You’re trying to get all that work down during the day, but something terrible happens – everything stops and you can’t do a thing. You’ve suffered that afternoon crash. The afternoon crash happens to all of us at work. But that doesn’t mean you have to suffer from it. There are many things you can do to help lessen the burden of low energy during the afternoon!
Sleep!
The best way to avoid harsh crashes in the afternoon is to make sure you are receiving the adequate amount of sleep that works for you! And this sleep must be truly restful. Waking up five times during the night breaks your circadian rhythm, which causes grogginess in the morning. Instead, ensure your sleep environment is consistently comfortable so you can maintain restfulness each day of the week.
Have a Good Breakfast
Starting the day with a proper breakfast is crucial. You need a good meal that is not too filling and includes enough whole grain and protein to help you get through the day. Those who do not consume a healthy breakfast in the morning are more likely to feel sluggish during the day.
Consume Protein Instead of Carbs
You might think that consuming soda or coffee will help you to stay alert, but those are only going to provide you with simple carbohydrates. Simple carbs are used quickly, and provide a fast hit of glucose (aka sugar). You can consume healthy lean proteins from nuts, cheeses, or even yogurt. Protein will provide you with the consistent energy you need to stay active during the day.
Keep Away From the Computer Screen
Schedule some breaks from your computer screen throughout the day. Staring at your screen all day will only hurt as doing so would cause you to develop eyestrain. Don’t forget to keep your eyes a little further from the screen as you work.
Drink Enough Water
Make sure you drink plenty of cold water to keep yourself alert. You don’t have to splash that cold water in your face if you have do not want to. You can also consume green tea for a gentle amount of caffeine. The small amount of caffeine in green tea ensures there will be no problems with you crashing later in the day. Caffeine is known to cause the body to wear out during the day; the bolt of energy you would get off of caffeine is only short-lived.
Listen To Music With Headphones
You can stay a little more focused when you are listening to music on your headphones. You may end up focusing a little more on your task when you wear headphones and listen to something you enjoy. Just be sure that the music is not overly pervasive or might distract you from whatever you are doing.
