Sleep and Weight Gain

Sleep weight gain

Sleep Deprivation causes a chain reaction of physiologic reactions that can lead to obesity over an extended period of time. Less sleep also means more time awake. Paired with increased hunger, this leads to higher caloric intake. Increased fatigue and altered thermoregulation are also a result of inadequate rest. This causes a reduction in energy output during the day. This long-term increase in calories with less energy burned causes obesity.
