5 Easy Habits That Help You Live Longer

We’re all looking for ways to stay healthy and to live longer. Fortunately, there are five things that we can do to live longer. You can use these five scientifically proven ideas to help you stay healthy and enjoy your life to the fullest.

Enjoy Cardio Exercise Each Day

Start your quest towards living longer by doing some form of cardiovascular exercise every day. Complete about 30 minutes of exercise if possible. Whether it entails a good walk or jog around the block, using a rowing machine or stepper in your home, you can use cardio exercise to your advantage.

Concentrate on Healthy Fats

Fats are not bad for you if you consume the right ones. These include fats that reduce LDL cholesterol levels in your body. Omega-3 fatty acids from fish and olive oil are helpful for your body. These may fit into your diet alongside lean proteins and whole grains, not to mention vegetables. Avoid consuming red meats or processed foods that might raise your LDL cholesterol levels.

Avoid Smoking

Saying that you should avoid smoking or stop smoking if you already do is nothing new. But you have to understand that tobacco products often include toxic metals designed to keep the tobacco materials intact. You may be smoking in cadmium, nickel, and chromium among other heavy metals. Therefore, it is critical for you to avoid smoking so you can keep from taking in these harmful materials.

Keep Your Alcohol Consumption Under Control

It is best to avoid over-consuming alcohol as this depressant may harm your body and dull its ability to heal itself over time. The concern does not mean that you have to get rid of alcohol altogether. A glass of wine about four ounces in size or less may help you each day. Having a single glass of wine in a day can help you regulate a healthy heart rate, thus reducing your risk of developing a heart attack or other cardiac-related issue. Red wine is best, although different types of wine may work too. A single glass of beer may also be fine provided that the alcohol content is low. Still, you should avoid doing this to excess.

Review Your Body Mass

The fifth and final habit is to maintain your weight accordingly. The best measure is to keep your Body Mass Index or BMI between 18.5 and 24.9. The total is considered a point that is healthy for most adults. Keeping your weight under control is vital; you could lose weight if you have a high BMI, or you can add weight through healthy muscle or bone mass if your BMI is low. Either way, you have to plan your routine for managing weight based on your BMI. You can talk to your doctor for help in this case.
